Calabasas Homes for Sale
Upscale Neighborhood with a great sense of community!
Calabasas is more than a quiet suburb found west of the San Fernando Valley; it is a hidden gem for residential living. Over the last few years, the city of Calabasas has grown in its reputation for luxury as well as for privacy which makes it a prime spot for A-list Celebrity residents.
If you want to experience the best Southern California has to offer, moving to Calabasas should be your first choice. Close enough to Los Angeles and all its urban amenities while still retaining a peaceful, tranquil atmosphere, Calabasas will give you the best of both worlds.
The City of Calabasas is located in the southwest corner of the San Fernando Valley, in Los Angeles County, and comprises a portion of the Santa Monica Mountains. It is 31 miles (50 km) away from downtown Los Angeles. It is bordered by the Woodland Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles to the northeast, Topanga to the east, Malibu to the south, Agoura Hills to the west, and Hidden Hills to the north. The commemorative El Camino Real runs east–west through Calabasas as the Ventura Freeway (US 101).
The first reason why people choose to live in Calabasas is for the community. Partly due to the relatively small population of Calabasas (about 25,000), you get a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of city living. Contrary to its surrounding neighborhoods, Calabasas provides its residents with privacy. And you will enjoy the small town feel with its friendly sidewalks and festive neighborhood events such as the Calabasas Pumpkin Festival. And an important part of this community is an award-winning school system: Las Virgenes Unified School District is made up of 15 public schools.
Conveniently situated between the region’s most eye-catching attractions, Calabasas has something to fill your leisure time, no matter your fancy. Whether it is shopping, fine-dining or golfing, Calabasas will be your destination.
Things to Do in Calabasas
History and Recreation
- Leonis Adobe Museum – Leonis Adobe is one of the oldest surviving structures in the San Fernando Valley. It was built in 1844 as the private residence of Miguel Leonis, a wealthy rancher. It has since been listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is now a living museum which transports visitors back in time to a California ranch style of life. A visit there is fun for the entire family and displays what life was like in the 1800s complete with a tour of the barn and blacksmith shop. Younger visitors love the opportunity to meet, pet, and feed many of the ranch’s animals as well.
- Malibu Creek State Park – One of the most stunning locales in the Santa Monica Mountains, 588-acre King Gillette Ranch offers a rare unspoiled view of California’s rich archaeological, cultural, and historic resources, including a Chumash settlement, and nationally significant structures designed for razor magnate King C. Gillette in the 1920’s by Wallace Neff, architect of California’s Golden Age. Situated at the lower end of the Las Virgenes Valley in the heart of the Malibu Creek Watershed, this scenic parkland is a haven for larger mammals of the Santa Monica Mountains. The broad meadows and low ridgelines serve as a wildlife movement corridor or hub in the geographic center of the range. Nine sensitive species are present. Raptors and other birds forage and nest among the plant communities of valley and coast live oak, grassland, coastal sage scrub, chaparral, riparian woodland, and southern willow riparian vegetation.
- Calabasas Senior Center – The Calabasas Senior Center provides a gathering place for senior men and women, 50 years and older, where they can enjoy activities that contribute to continued learning and enrichment, socialization with other seniors, and participation in recreational programs that promote healthy lifestyles.
