I know many of these professionals and their value comes from their local knowledge, their expertise and their caring. Almost everyone I know in this field came to it through personal experience with a loved one. Many didn’t realize the availability of these professionals when they started their own journey so they want to use what they learned to help others. They will ask questions you would never think of on your own. Most often the Senior Living Placement Specialists are paid by whichever community is selected so there is no charge to the family.
Most Specialists work with a large variety of senior communities (size and level of care provided): assisted living, independent living to board & care, hospice and memory care. They use the client’s wants and needs to match them to a community. Primary considerations are often location, price, services, size of community and level of care needed. Their local expertise allows them to guide clients to the best solution.
I was at a social function at Brookdale North Tarzana recently. Families of some of my recent clients had expressed how happy their parents are at their respective Senior communities for the social aspects including organized activities. Their parents became somewhat isolated after giving up driving and having health issues. But interestingly a number of the clients I chatted with that evening expressed how happy they are not to have to do daily cooking, cleaning, laundry and housekeeping. Sounds good to me!!!
